Noel Taylor
Whilst many improvisors explore the more abstract qualities of their instrument through extended techniques, Noel Taylor tends to be more interested in responding to pitch, intonation and structure. He never avoids melody if the improvisation seems to demand it. An intense listener, he is constantly seeking to synthesize and join together, or summarise, the disparate strands that other musicians contribute to an improvisation. This feeling for the underlying tone and emotion of the music is most evident in his many conductions with large groups, such as the London Improvisers Orchestra, the Berlin Improvisers Orchestra and other ensembles.
Now living in Portugal, he has immersed himself in the Lisbon scene, bringing two of his ongoing projects, Splatter and Bays Leap, on small tours.
